once again, i find all my good efforts sabotaged by the lure of dinner. what was going to turn into a quick dip into the the stagnant chill of t'internet has turned into an hour in which i have discovered the most fantastic thing...
...a mcfly/trombone mashup! truly, a wonderous day for pop.

hello, hello, thrice hello!
i find, once again, that i have frittered away a whole day on sleeping, making a mix-cd and pottering about on t'internet (even more so now that i have left the digital stone age and obtained broadband). so what was going to be a day of eating properly, reading for my dissertation and doing the housework turned into eating pizza, reading 5 pages (abandoning for the promise of Flightplan with S) and loading up the machine with one load and then leaving it there for what i am sure will be at least two days. sigh. domesticity is not my mistress today.
however, i must confess that i am rather pleased with my new mix-cd today. i made a double-sided mix for P because i was the happy recipient of such a gift from her recently. the inclusion of mc hammer and a-ha made me dance wildly in the car while i was hidden in the relative gloom of the blackwall tunnel. the first half dance, dance, dance is a mix of 80s trash classics (i was reminded of the gem that is opposites attract by L last night) and some popjustice inspired electro-stomper pop gems. i love the tribal stomp of nelly furtado's new single and it has been on repeat on my iTunes recently. finest dreams was my summer anthem a couple of years ago and richard x and kelis is quite possibly one of the most perfect combinations there is. also, two fabulous covers, the debated sugababes cover of i bet you look good on the dancefloor which i'm sure most arctic monkeys fans hate but to my way of thinking, it's proof of pop's redeeming powers. the liberty x cover of dirty cash is just tremendous fun. the flipside is entirely built around the wonderful lily allen's LDN which is just crying out to be released this summer. she was featured in this month's observer music monthly, plugged on PJ and played on jo whiley's show all in the last two weeks. ignore any mention of her as "the female streets", it's just lazy journalism, she's a little more (amy winehouse - jazz) + (pop + ska) = lily allen. anyway, the mix-cd was comprised of:
dance, dance, dance
maneater - nelly furtardo
finest dreams - richard x feat. kelis
got to be real - cheryl lynn
dirty rotten boy - georgina b shaw
hungry like the wolf - duran duran
dirty cash - liberty x
opposites attract - paula abdul
i bet you look good on the dancefloor - sugababes
gay bar - electric six
9 to 5 - dolly parton
wake me up before you go-go - wham!
footloose - kenny loggins
thunder in my heart again - meck feat. leo sayer
danger! high voltage - electric six
upside down - diana ross
your body - tom novy
i touch myself - the divinyls
i'll be ready - sunblock
incredible - shapeshifters
love in the first degree - bananarama
unemployed in summertime
fill my little world - the feeling
LDN - lily allen
pumps (mylo remix) - amy winehouse
nothing but song - siobhan donaghy
june gloom - the like
mr. blue sky - ELO
why do i do? - tyler james
bastardo - charlotte hatherley
new york boy - gloss
moi je joue - brigitte bardot
save your kisses for me - kenickie
chewing gum - annie
life on mars - david bowie
9 to 5 (ordinary boys remix) - lady sovereign
trouble kid - hefner
hombre - m.i.a.
unemployed in summertime (tore johansson remix) - emiliana torrinni
bridging the gap - nas feat. olu dara
the time is now (bambino casino mix) - moloko
this old heart of mine (is weak for you) - the isley brothers
i also rediscovered my love of sophie ellis-bextor today so lover may just find its way onto future mix-cds. P has very much indie/dance tastes so i tried to make concessions to this but i'm afraid my brazen love of all things pop reared it's airbrushed head.
i have had quizmania on in the background since 12am and it's driving me crazy but i find that i can't muster the willpower to switch it off. it's hideously addictive. i curse the day S introduced it to me and the barry "bang! and the dirt is gone" scott-esque charms of greggles. truly, all i have to do is add neighbours and deal or no deal to my already overloaded viewing schedule and i would be a typical slacker student.
anyway, my bed and television beckons, i must get a full night's sleep so that i can start my futile venture to research my dissertation again. over & out el capitan.
